science in the movies

"Science in the Movies" engages students by connecting exciting movie moments to real-world science, helping them apply what they’ve learned in class to understand the science happening on screen.
"Students don’t just watch the movie clip
— they experience the science behind it".

🎬 Science in the Movies brings learning to life by using popular films to spark curiosity and deepen understanding.

Volume 2 coming NOVEMBER 15, 2025!
About Science Clips:

Science in the Movies is designed to help teachers bring science to life using short, meaningful film clips that connect directly to core classroom concepts. Each activity transforms movie moments into opportunities for inquiry, analysis, and reflection.
Teachers can use these clips as:
  • 🔹 Phenomena Starters — to launch a new unit or anchor a big idea.
  • 🔹 Discussion Drivers — to promote reasoning, evidence, and collaboration.
  • 🔹 Assessment Tools — to check conceptual understanding and application.
Each worksheet includes:
1️⃣ Before You Watch – Builds curiosity and activates prior knowledge.
2️⃣ Science Connections (A) – Links the clip to key scientific principles.
3️⃣ Data & Analysis (B) – Strengthens numeracy and evidence-based thinking.
4️⃣ Real-World Connection (C) – Extends learning beyond the screen.
5️⃣ Reflection (D) – Encourages metacognition and personal connection.

How to use Science Clips:
* "Science Clips" are short excerpts from movies that highlight a specific science concept or issue. These short clips offer a practical solution to using movies in science class without having to play the entire movie. By using video segments that are anywhere from three to five minutes in length, teachers can capture the educational benefits of film without taking away valuable class time.
* Be sure to watch the video prior to using it in your class to make sure there is no profanity, or other issues that may conflict with your school policies!

* Timestamps are provided for each movie so you don't have to search for it.
* We do not provide the movie, nor the clips due to copyright laws.
